Compare&&Contrast

The Outsiders Compare&Contrast The outsiders is a “novel” which, tells a story about two groups of teenagers in different gangs, The main points of view are mostly those of the main character (Ponyboy). The gangs are seen as being on two different levels. One group is civilized with snobbish and idiotic members - the “Socs“ (socials) while the other group is uncivilized but with smart and nice people – “Greasers”. I find the Book differs from the Movie very much, in the movie we watched they skipped out a lot of the book and changed around other parts. In the book Ponyboy tells us at the end of the book that (the story) these are his memories. In the movie, Ponyboy tells us this in the beginning. Also, in the book Ponyboy had a nice dream with his parents but in the movie he has a nightmare. However there are also similarities Like when Cherry Valance says “ Yeah, Socs with the big houses, fancy cars, with all the breaks but Ponyboy, things are rough all over” … these were the same words as in the book. Another similarity is with ‘the letter’ Johnny wanted Ponyboy to read; the words and sentences were the same as in the book. I think the Book is better than the movie because you understand the story more. You understand it more because you can hear all Ponyboy’s thoughts and this explains, clarifies and exposes everything that happens. In the movie, we are not allowed access to most of his internal thoughts and feelings, Ponyboy has to explain them all in sentences to us and this changes the dialogue. These added words make the movie different in more than one way. I prefer the book by far its more entertaining and you have details of every action and thought. With all this information you can imagine your own movie. In the movie we watched these details are all shorten and compact.
